10AM - Off Work for election day.

~2hours w/ 2x2mi. Tempo.  Ran out Carr Hill/Youth Camp for some hilly tempo efforts.  It is 70 degrees and sunny.  Drank most of handheld and ate one gel.  Feeling decent energy/leg wise.  Aerobically, it doesn't feel like I am where I was a couple months ago.  The hill efforts were taxing... and pace was right around goal MP.

Great weather for running today's Monumental Marathon in downtown Indy.  40 degrees at the start.  50ish degrees at the finish, and no wind, with some cloud cover.  Looking at the Garmin data, it probably could have been a bit less humid...  Fun times - It was great to meet some new guys Nathan brought up from KY, with a couple (?) of them running their first marathon.  They very graciously picked up my packet at the expo the night before, and I met them at their hotel (a couple blocks from the start line).  As we made our ways over to the start line, I lost them somewhere...  I met up and found a lot of Quaffers.  Former runner Danny Webb even snapped some pictures of us... (JK, Danny).

The most evenly paced, smart marathon I have run.  After 2 marathon fails this fall with a stubborn "forcing" of 6:20 pace on some warmer days, I decided to tone it back to about 6:30 and see how it went.  Off to a relaxed and easy start.  around downtown and through Monument Circle with the usual loss of signal in mile 2 (under the bridge).  Half split is 1:25:44, and I am feeling in control.  Controlled 20 miles in 2:10, no mile splits over 6:39 (except the glitchy mile 2 under the long bridge where the GPS signal is lost).  I push pretty hard in the last 10k to stay around 6:30, and even had a good kick left in me for a finish sprint to pass by a couple guys.  Considering this is my 4th marathon since September 26, I consider this race result a huge success.

I have been notoriously bad at pacing/positive split in marathon - looking at placings at the the different timing mats, I was in like 90th at the half mat, but finished 59th... ~1 minute negative split!
